What is Schwätzer's?

Schwätzer's was chosen to have a custom designed food truck for its business.

Schwätzer’s which serves authentic German cuisine to Southern Indiana in Seymour, Indiana. Seymour is most known for its annual Oktoberfest that celebrates their German traditions and heritage. The objective was to have the identity showcase those feelings year round.

Goals:

  • Develop a theme for the food truck that resonates with the restaurant’s culinary style and ethos

  • Use Menu Engineering to craft a digital menu showing the dishes and guides customers towards specific sections

  • Extend on the visual identity to the to-go containers, ensuring the visual elements work seamlessly

  • Expressing German culture effectively and appropriately across various deliverables.

Challenges:

  • Developing a visual theme that showcases German folklore art and culture

  • Showcasing the idea of beer/alcohol when not serving it on the truck

  • Incorporating the cuisine served the visual theme and brand identity

  • Creating a visual language that pairs with the restaurant’s preexisting typeface

Cultural Inspiration

The overall concept was to look towards German folkcore and visuals to continue to showcase the restaurant’s love for their heritage.

The logomark stems from one of German folklore’s mythical creatures - the Wolpertinger. The story goes that woodland creatures came together and produced mutant offspring which led to them becoming cultural symbols.

Menu Engineering:

Menu engineering was used to layout the digital to draw focus to the food products based on sales data and food costs. It involves categorizing menu items based on their popularity (sales volume) and profitability.

Sides are considered Stars due to being inexpensive to make and at a good price.

Main Courses are considered Plow Horses due to being popular items but more expensive to make
